What is the best way to clean a worktop?

Do quartz worktops need sealing?

Do natural stone worktops need sealing?
Natural stone worktops such as granite and marble should be sealed to help protect against moisture absorption and staining. These materials contain microscopic pores that can allow liquids to penetrate over time. We seal natural stone before installation and generally recommend resealing annually. For marble worktops, resealing every six months may be beneficial depending on usage.

What is a hob splashback?
A hob splashback is a larger vertical stone panel installed behind the hob or cooker to protect the wall from grease, steam and cooking splashes. Stone splashbacks provide durable wall protection while creating a seamless premium finish when cut from the same material as your worktop. What is the difference between a splashback and an upstand?

Properly installed kitchen base units should be level across the carcass, with minor adjustments made using packers where necessary to achieve a perfectly level surface. Upstands cut on a calibrated bridge saw are precision finished to create a clean, tight joint. Any visible gaps are usually the result of uneven base units or poor levelling during installation.
Should joints in worktops be visible?
Worktop joints should be neat, flush and as discreet as possible. A high-quality joint is typically no wider than 2–3mm and filled using colour-matched resin for a seamless appearance. Silicone is generally only used to secure worktops to base units and to fix upstands or splashbacks to walls. Where patterned or veined materials are used, every effort is made to align the design across joins, although exact matching depends on the material. Solid surface materials such as Corian can be joined seamlessly, whereas stone surfaces will always have a fine visible joint line.
Can engineered quartz be used outdoors?
Engineered quartz is generally not recommended for external use. While quartz is highly durable indoors, the resin content used in its manufacture can discolour or degrade when exposed to prolonged UV light. For this reason, most quartz manufacturers do not warranty their surfaces for outdoor applications. Natural granite or porcelain are usually better suited for exterior installations.

Most worktops are ready for installation within 7–10 days of final templating. Timescales can vary depending on material availability, special-order surfaces or imported slabs not currently stocked in the UK. Where your chosen material is readily available from our yard or local suppliers, installation can sometimes be completed sooner. Natural stone surfaces may occasionally require additional preparation time for sealing, reinforcement or bespoke detailing. We will always keep you informed of lead times before production begins.

What is the difference between quartz and quartzite?
Quartzite is a natural stone, while quartz is an engineered surface. Although their names are similar, they are very different materials. Quartzite is a naturally occurring metamorphic stone formed under intense heat and pressure, making it highly durable and heat resistant with unique natural veining and colour variation. Engineered quartz surfaces are typically manufactured using around 90–95% crushed natural quartz combined with resins and pigments to create a highly consistent, non-porous finish. Quartz offers excellent stain resistance and lower maintenance, while quartzite provides natural character and exceptional heat resistance.
