100% Natural Quartzite

Apart from being unique in its appearances, 100% natural quartzite is the toughest stone available for countertops and many popular products around the home, kitchen or workplace.

The hardness of a stone material is attributed to the minerals and according to the mineral availability in the place it is formed. These minerals also contribute to quartzites pastel tones

How Does a Quartzite Slab Size Benefit you?

Although it is a more expensive stone material compared to other natural stone worktop options, the size of the slabs are extremely large by comparsion to engineered surfaces such as man-made-quartz. With slabs sizes being approximately 2 metres x 3 metres, most average sized kitchens can be cut from a single slab, saving in cost on an already higher than average costing material.

Stocks & Demand

Mgm Worktops Ltd stocks several natural quartzite countertop surfaces in our yard and supply a large range of luxury colours from almost every natural stone supplier. Quartzite has shown a substantial rise in popularity over the past few years and continues to be of high demand. Cost differences between each design depend on several factors such as exotic colours, striking veins, opacity, rarity and demand.

Batch Differences

Being a natural stone type, the choices are wide because the appearances of for example 'Cristalos Imperiale' can differ substantially from one slab to another. Stone slabs will vary in colour and design, and by batch. Batches are cut from the source rock in blocks. this means, that a slab from one block is more than likely to differ to a slab from aother block.

Edge lit or fully illuminating the vibrant worktop surface from the underside, bringing out deeper colours within the stone and increasing contrast.

Best with high quartz content quartzite

Natural quartzites high content of crystalline quartz allows light to shine through the solid stone material. Quartz crystals are clear or opaque in there purest forms and a true quartzite must consist of at least 90% crystalline quartz. The light that shines through gets diffused as it reflects through the crystals, making backlighting relatively easy to achieve with light emitting diodes (LED's).

Quartzite Worktop Care & Maintenance

Quartzite is naturally durable, but like all natural stones, sealing helps maintain resistance to moisture and staining.

  • Seal once or twice per year
  • Use chopping boards to prevent wear
  • Clean with warm soapy water
  • Avoid harsh chemicals

Sealing Quartzite Surfaces

As quartzite is 100% natural, it is porous if left untreated, especially in areas of fissures and veins. Water resistances are maintained by sealing the surface, which also helps keep the highly polished surface of sealed quartzite shiny and bacteria resistant. Sealing is recommended once or twice yearly and is a relatively simple process.

Heat Resistance

Naturally, a quartzite countertop is a great conductor of heat, resisting high temperatures makes it a good choice for many applications. High heat resistance make it suitable for products such as fireplace hearths and surrounds.

Simple Maintenance Methods

The simplest maintenance methods for your luxury stone surface is to use trivets for hot pans, chopping boards for cutting, and wipe away spillages with warm soapy water. Avoidance of chemicals is advised, mainly to ensure that the sealed surface remains viable for the longevity of worktops, tough dirt and limescale build-up can be removed from the surface using lemon juice or vinegar.
